Chizhov: wrestling with the EU "misinformation" Russia could become a new stimulus
The EU's decision to fight the so-called "misinformation" of Russia on the situation in Ukraine may become a new irritant in relations between the EU and Russia, said Russia's permanent representative to the EU Vladimir Chizhov.

yesterday the leaders of the countries-EU members instructed the head of diplomacy Federico Mogerini to the June summit plan of action on strategic communication. According to the head of the European Council Donald Tusk, it would be a " challenge of the ongoing Russian campaign of disinformation to the public on the issue of the conflict in Ukraine ". The first step in this battle will be the development of a communications unit.

"Of course, the statement about certain campaigns of misinformation emanating from the Russian side is obviously flimsy position. But the real steps that they have plans to take on the part of resistance to what they believe such campaigns, it's probably serious. Because after all, it is in fact the opposition of objective information. Then I see the potential of a new problem in our relations with the European Union, a new irritant. When alternative views and alternative judgments about what is happening in Ukraine will be to enroll in mechanical like a disinformation campaign, " said Chizhov, explaining the decisions of the summit.

Thus, according to his statement, " what will be done from the West and the Ukrainian authorities, Clearly, will be presented as the ultimate truth ".

"The situation could get on this track to be quite difficult," - said the envoy.

He also expressed hope that the EU will not follow the example of Kiev in relations with the media.

"We're not going to act the way you do the Kiev authorities to prohibit the entry of correspondents, depriving them of accreditation and closing the objectionable television channels. I dream that on this very old-fashioned way will not go and the countries of the European Union, " Chizhov said.
