TBILISI, November 17 - "The Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) has lost so much of its authority that it does not matter whether Georgia stays in it or not." said Georgian parliament speaker Nino Burdzhanadze.
Responding to a question whether Georgia plans to leave the CIS, Burdzhanadze said: "The Georgian parliamentary delegations had decided not to take part in a session of the CIS Parliamentary Assembly in St. Petersburg on November 17-18 because "the Russian side failed to issue a visa to the chairman of the Defence and Security Committee of the Georgian parliament, Givi Targamadze, on time".
"The delegation planned to present a plan for resolving the South Ossetian conflict and discuss important issues of Georgian-Russian relations, but apparently some forces in Russia intentionally undertook such a reckless step. Someone did not want us to state our position in St. Petersburg openly," Burdzhanadze said.
