Georgian parliament decision not to affect peace-makers` activity
Georgian Parliament regulation about withdrawal of Russian peace-makers will not affect activity of peace-maker`s contingent of Russian Federation in South Osetia and Abkhazia.
This was announced to journalists by Russian minister of Defense Sergey Ivanov in Paris on Tuesday.
"Georgian side has a right to bring up a question about changing of withdrawal mechanism but these decisions will not affect current activity of peace-makers", - said minister.
Calling decision of Georgian parliament as "political", Ivanov pointed out that Russian peace-makers are in South Osetia and Abkhazia according to corresponding mandate which can not be changed in one-way form.
On Tuesday Georgian parliament approved regulation "About peace-making activity and situation in conflict regions of Georgia".
In this document prepared by parliament committee of Foreign Affairs delegates appeal to Russia to fulfill mandate of peace-makers in regions of Georgian-Abkhazian and Georgian-Osetian conflicts.
"If Russia doesn`t take appropriate measures for achievement of real progress in peace-maker`s mandate then Georgian parliament will demand from Russian parliament to report about situation in Georgian-Osetian conflict region until February 10, 2006. If analyses doesn`t reveal any progress then Georgian parliament will start corresponding procedure and will demand withdrawal of Russian peace-makers from Czkhinval region", - was said in document.
Concerning Georgian-Abkhazian conflict. Regulation says that "Georgian parliament is given a deadline by July 1, 2006 to prepare report with analysis of situation and work of Russian peace-makers in zone of conflict". For lack of progress by this time, Georgian parliament demands to stop peace-making operations in Abkhazia from July 15, 2006, denounces Sochi agreement dated by 1994 and abolishes all existing structures".
