Amendments to the Code of the Russian Federation on Administrative Offenses related to offenses on transport are becoming effective today.
The amendments include higher penalties for traffic violations. The latter will become stricter and in addition to fines, will include an arrest of up to 15 days and suspension of a driver?s license.
In particular, failing to fasten a security belt will cost 500 rubles; speeding for up to 20 km/h - 300 rubles, and for over 60 km/h - 2, 000-2, 500 rubles, up to a suspension of a driver?s license for half a year. Failure to wait at the red traffic light will cost 700 rubles.
Besides, starting Aug 11, drivers will also risk by speaking on the cell phone while driving: this will be fined. Also, significantly raised (from 2, 500 to 5, 000 rubles) is the fine for driving without officially registered license plates. Driving a tramway in a wrong lane is priced at 1, 000-1, 500 rubles. Driving on a sidewalk has a price tag of 2, 000 rubles.
Pedestrians will also have to pay more for negligence in the street. Violation of traffic regulations causing injury will cost a pedestrian up to 1, 500 rubles.
