Bomb squad experts have disabled an explosive device near a sports club in west Moscow, a law enforcement source said.
Operatives from the Federal Security Service (FSB) responded late on Monday to an emergency call from the club`s security alerting police to the presence of a suspicious-looking object at the entrance to the building.
A K9 unit subsequently discovered a device, containing up to four TNT charges with detonators, fixed to a radio-controlled car. The premises were then evacuated, and the explosive device destroyed with a high-pressure water jet pump.
Experts discovered that the explosive device was equipped with a mobile phone set to remotely detonate the bomb.
"Apparently, the perpetrators controlled the toy car from a nearby street while keeping away from surveillance cameras and security personnel," the source said.
The FSB has launched an investigation into the incident.
