The issues of gas transit from Russia to the European Union ought to allow up to 2019, when the relevant agreement with Ukraine, said Russia's permanent representative to the EU Vladimir Chizhov.
"The current long-term contract 10-year-old, signed in 2009 by then Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, is valid to 2019. If at the time of expiration will not be a new contract, the lack of any consensus Gazprom is unlikely to be able to deliver gas along the route in question. In the interests of not only Ukraine, but also those countries that receive gas along the route in question, the agreement is timely, that is, prior to the completion of this 10-year period to 2019, " said Chizhov in an interview to a TV channel.
according to him, the project "Northern stream-2" is not political and is not intended to push Ukraine away from transit." This is a project that will ensure the stability of gas supply in the long term not only for the Northern part of Europe, but with appropriate interconnects - connecting pipelines and other parts of Europe, " - said Chizhov.
"Will he fully unrealized project" South stream "? No, not Replace it. Will he fully transit through Ukraine - by and large, this is not the question, at the far end of the Ukrainian transit pipeline are other countries-the consumers, " he said.
