Residents on the outskirts of Mosul are afraid to return home

The inhabitants of the newly liberated Iraqi village on the outskirts of Mosul fled in panic, when there were rumors that their tormentors come back.

An operation to regain control over Mosul, the second largest city in Iraq and the last major stronghold of the ISIL in the country swept through their village, freeing them from the oppression of the terrorists. The village of al-ADL, which is located 30 miles (50 km) Southeast of Mosul, near the Great Zab River, was repulsed by the 9th Panzer division, which marked its free from the oppression of ISIS and went on to release other small settlements in the area.

But the jubilation was short-lived residents. Two days after their homes had been liberated from terrorists, a group of 200 Iraqis fled from the village, not even stopping to put on shoes after rumors that ISIS fighters are back.

A group of women told CNN about the hardships and the horrors of life under the oppression of ISIS. They said they lived in constant fear.

Every day ISIL's fighters were checking their weapons and mobile phones. People found guilty of possession of phones. Smoking is also considered a crime punishable by death. One woman said that even they were starving. One person said that he saw no signs that the rebels returned, but could not risk to stay, especially after most of his neighbors fled. After some time, slowly and carefully, nervous residents have raised their meager possessions and headed back. They are afraid, but they are ready to return home.
