9 people were arrested in connection with a deadly accident at a Chinese power plant in which killed 74 people last week, according according to the state news Agency of China Xinhua.
Chairman and chief engineer of the station Fengcheng in Jiangxi province was among those arrested in connection with the incident, in which the platform was erected around the towers suddenly collapsed. The arrests were announced the day after the top leaders of China ordered a nationwide review of safety standards in industrial facilities.
Chinese President XI Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang asked local authorities to "prevent serious accidents and to plug the holes in safety standards," reads the statement according to the State administration of work safety. The meeting was chaired by Vice-Premier MA Kai, who conveyed a message to local officials, the statement said.
The participants agreed that on construction sites, the coal mines and sectors that handle hazardous chemicals, fireworks, food and heating systems need more control.
Data show that China in 2015 was recorded 569 accidents on manufacture, including during a fire at the warehouse of hazardous chemicals in Tianjin which killed 173 people, and a landslide at the mine in Shaanxi province which killed 65 miners and their families.
