The majority leader in the Senate Mitch McConnell joined the discussion with President-elect Donald trump about Russia saying that he supported the Congress that the Russian hackers were trying to influence the election.
McConnell praised the American intelligence community, saying it has "the highest trust of the intelligence community, particularly the Central intelligence Agency" - which trump recently criticized. Trump has questioned whether Russia interfered in the elections.
A bipartisan group of senators - John McCain, the democratic leader in the Senate, Chuck Schumer, Senator Lindsey Graham and Senator Jack reed has called for an investigation into whether Russia was trying to influence the election.
The President-elect on Sunday morning, blasted the intelligence community by his statement, saying that "ridiculous" to think that Russia interfered in the elections. "I think it's just another reason. I don't believe it," said trump in an interview with "Fox News Sunday". McCain, who called for an investigation into the hacking, said that in the 2008 presidential campaign was hacked by the Russians.
McConnell also expressed scepticism about Russia's role. "Let me speak for myself: the Russians are not our friends," he told reporters at a press conference Monday morning. The speaker of the house of representatives Paul Ryan took the same position as McConnell. "Any foreign intervention in our elections is absolutely unacceptable," said Ryan in a statement. "Any Russian intervention is particularly problematic because, under President Putin, Russia is the aggressor, who constantly undermines us interests."
The last score came via a report from The Washington Post that the CIA concluded that Russia not only seeks to sow discord in elections, but actually tried to get trump as President. Members of Congress will continue to investigate the Russian elections.
