India tested a missile "Agni-5", capable of carrying a nuclear warhead
India successfully tested its most powerful nuclear-capable missile warhead, reported according to defence research and development organization of the country (DRDO) and the Ministry of defence. The defence Ministry said the test showed the growing force of missiles in the country and will help as a deterrent.
"The successful test of the missile "Agni-5" is very pleased the country. It will add great strength to our strategic defence," said Prime Minister Narendra modi on Twitter. It was the fourth successful test of an Intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) "Agni-5". The first test was launched in 2012. The launch comes at a time when global concerns about the proliferation of nuclear weapons already on the rise, contributed to the election of Donald trump as the next President of the United States and the recent comments of Russian President Vladimir Putin. Last week Putin said he will seek to expand nuclear capability of their country. Trump responded on Twitter: "the United States should substantially strengthen and expand its nuclear potential."
Both countries have more than 14 thousand nuclear warheads. India has anywhere between 100 to 120 nuclear warheads, according to the Federation of American scientists - more than in North Korea, but less than in China. "Agni-5" was of great concern to China, because its range is 5 thousand km away, Beijing is in the area of her reach. Pakistan's historic enemy India, was in the range "Agni-5", according to the military analysis. The new missile is expected to be commissioned in 2017, according to military analyst - will be "the Foundation of the China-specific nuclear containment of India."
