Israeli police banned men-believers in the age to 50 years to enter the Old city of Jerusalem and the temple mount, also known as the Noble sanctuary for the Friday prayers after the deadly shooting last week.
According to the representative of the press service of the police, Mickey Rosenfeld, women are still allowed to enter regardless of age, as well as tourists. Police and border police units will be mobilized in all areas and will respond to any incident or unrest in the vicinity of the Old town, added Rosenfeld.
Last Friday, two Israeli police officers were killed during a shooting at the Lion's gate in the Old city walls, beside the fact that Muslims call the Noble Sanctuary and Jews the Temple mount.
The religious authority of the Jordanian Waqf that controls the Temple mount, condemned the use of metal detectors for scanning of believers. The religious leaders of the Waqf refused to enter through the detectors, which were created for safety. Israeli police said that they are working hard to ensure that Friday prayers could continue in complete safety. The temple mount was closed after the attack last Friday and reopened on Sunday for fans, visitors and tourists with additional security measures.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu gave a tribute to the slain police officer. Both officers were from the community, arabskiego religious minorities.
