Airline Qantas has challenged the world's largest manufacturers of aircraft: the airline plans to build a jet that can fly from Sydney to London or new York- without stopping.
Australian airline Qantas wants Boeing 777X or the Airbus A350 could make an epic routes of the Eastern cities of Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane by 2022. "This is the last frontier in the world of aviation, said Thursday the chief Executive of Qantas, Alan Joyce, as the company announced quarterly results. "It would be one of the most strategically important aircraft orders in the history of Qantas".
If Boeing or Airbus can fly without stopping, the passengers will spend more than 20 hours between continents. This is approximately three to four hours less than the total time for the current trips that require a stop in Asia or the middle East to refuel. This route between Sydney and London would beat world record holder for distance (Auckland, New Zealand, Doha, Qatar) more than 1,300 nautical miles.
According to Qantas direct services between Sydney and London is 20 hours and 20 minutes, and Sydney to new York is 18 hours and 7 minutes. Qantas (QABSY) believes that the marathon flights will be more attractive for passengers.
Airbus and Boeing are developing a new long range engines, but Qantas said that neither of them can make the flights from the US and Europe from Australia with a full load of passengers and their Luggage.
