The actress has revealed the now-18-month-old baby was diagnosed with congenital heart disease and had the operation before she left her native Korea. Katherine was able to adopt Naleigh faster because of her special needs and took the tot home to the US last September. She says the little girl has recovered well from the surgery and will go on to enjoy a normal childhood.
"Her heart is 100% fine now. She has a scar, so she won`t be wearing bikinis, which is fine by us," Katherine told the June issue of Harper`s Bazaar magazine. "A lot of children don`t find forever homes because they`re on that special-needs list, even if it`s because of something as simple as her mother smoked cigarettes for a month, not knowing she was pregnant. That`s not so huge that you couldn`t handle it."
Katherine went on to discuss how she is adjusting to motherhood. The 31-year-old beauty and her husband, musician Josh Kelley, love being parents, but Katherine admits she finds it daunting to pick out baby clothes. The star refuses to splash out on designer items for Naleigh because she is growing so fast and instead relies on high street stores.
"Dude, I try, but I`m not nailing the baby fashion. It`s intimidating," she laughed. "I get beautiful outfits from Gap and baby Juicy, but I`m not layering it or putting her in Prada flats. It`s really stressing me out."
Katherine also addressed reports Naleigh threw up all over her expensive lingerie. "If parent time interferes with sexy time, that`s that," she joked.
