The singer has enjoyed worldwide success since she shot to fame after winning British talent show The X Factor in 2006 and is set to embark on her debut solo tour in Sheffield, England, tomorrow night. She is a dedicated vegan and refuses to wear any clothes made from animal products, so to ensure her show outfits were also cruelty-free she insisted on having a specially-commissioned wardrobe designed by Antonio Berardi.
The fashion designer has previously worked with Madonna, Victoria Beckham and Gwyneth Paltrow and Leona had a very clear vision for how she wanted to be styled for her tour.
"Leona has been very forceful with Antonio," a source told British newspaper The Sun. "She has insisted the outfits are as ethically sound as they can possibly be.
"She`s paid for all the clothes out of her own pocket, so she has been quite hands-on in terms of design."
Leona has previously spoken about the upcoming series of shows, revealing she has been inspired by cult 80s musical movie Labyrinth starring David Bowie. Leona wants to make a lasting impression and is confident she has the right stage and choreography to do so.
"This is my first tour. I`m looking forward to people experiencing something different, stepping into a weird and wonderful world that we`re creating," she revealed. "I`m going to give everything every night. I have put so much love and care into making this over the last six months."
The tour has cost an estimated £5 million to stage and has been overseen by creative director William Baker, who has worked with Kylie Minogue.
Leona was left disappointed earlier this week after Christina Aguilera announced she was postponing her North American tour. The 25-year-old star was due to join Christina as the support act for the series of shows this summer.
