Jake Shears won`t be appearing in the Scissor Sisters` upcoming musical because he can`t "act his way out of a paper bag".
The pop group has been working on an adaptation of Armistead Maupin`s Tales from the City for the past two years. The show is due to open next year but Jake insists he will never set foot on the stage because he is such a bad actor.
"No I couldn`t act my way out of a paper bag," he laughed in an interview with BBC Radio 2. "I`m a terrible actor! It`s a proper musical. A musical musical. You have to act - and I can`t. There`s no chorus-type roles."
Jake and the rest of the band are set to have a busy year. They are currently preparing to embark on a world tour to promote their new album Night Work, and are spending all their free time putting the finishing touches to their musical.
Jake says the production promises to be challenging but incredibly rewarding.
"It`s gonna be intense," he said. "Any break we have we`re going to be in San Francisco working on it. We`ve been working on it for two years.
"It`s intense but it`s been great too because I`ve been able to channel those musical theatre influences into an actual musical, instead of into our albums."
