Russia`s law enforcement authorities have opened a criminal case against International Industrial Bank (IIB) on a charge of premeditated bankruptcy, sources familiar with the situation told RIA Novosti on Friday.
"The criminal case was opened on Wednesday," a source said.
Law enforcement and IIB officials were unavailable for comment.
IIB became Russia`s first large bank to have its license revoked since the onset of the economic crisis in 2009, when it was announced bankrupt in November.
Central Bank Chairman Sergei Ignatyev has informed Prosecutor General Yuri Chaika of facts pointing to premeditated bankruptcy and illegal actions during the bankruptcy.
IIB is controlled by tycoon Sergei Pugachev who was recently stripped of his status as a senator in the Federation Council, Russia`s upper house.
