A Russian team has beaten the world record in assembling a giant jigsaw puzzle. A picture of 24,000 pieces sized 4 x 1.5 meters was complete in 11 hours 32 minutes and 53 seconds, which is 2.5 hours faster than the previous world record.
The record was set by a team of 38 people during the second open championship on speed jigsaw assembling that has passed in the Russian town of Taganrog in Russia`s south. The team included volunteers from all around Russia, including Kemerovo, Tomsk, Novosibirsk, Chelyabinsk, St. Petersburg and Moscow. Participants` ages vary from 19 to 50 years. The previous best time was shown by a same-sized team from Thailand.
One of the organizers of the contest Sergey Suprunov told RIA Novosti news agency, that this record was etablished and will enter the Russian Book of Records. As for the Guinness Book, there is a possibility that it will be included there as well.
However according to Suprunov, the procedure of preparing documents for such an entry is difficult and expensive. "But we`ve followed all the rules of the Russian Book of Records and were promised that the information regarding our record will be sent to the Guinness Book, as they co-operate with each other," Suprunov said.
Winners of this unusual competition will soon head to Barcelona where they will get a chance to see how these huge jigsaw pictures are manufactured.
