The outer casing of the domestic segment of the International space station (ISS) is destroyed, announced Russian scientists. Agree to the statement, this is a consequence of the use of materials, not withstanding the effects of space radiation.
"In the end of last year we did the work for the Space center Khrunichev and received the discouraging results. Then a coating that is currently on the ISS, i.e. the entire hull of the station, it will destroy under the action of radiation. As part of this coverage includes polyamides, radiation unstable", - said the representative of the Institute of biomedical problems (IBMP).
According to her statement, the experts conducted an experiment on the effect of the neutrons on the materials that make up the lining of the ISS, "Interfax". It is established that in the 1st time stability of the coating is growing twice as happens binding materials, reduced water absorption. But in the future, materials "krupzavody", i.e. become more brittle.
"At the moment all the covering just flying, falling down," she added. Scientists came to conclusion that in order covering the ISS is not destroyed from the sun and cosmic rays, "we just need to understand the polymers that are resistant to radiation".
ISS is manned orbital station, which is used as a universal space research complex. The creation of ISS specifically in earth orbit was launched on 20 November 1998 the launch of functional cargo block Zarya.
This is a General international project in which will take part 15 States. Management of ISS is carried out by the Russian segment of the centre of space flights control in Korolev and the American segment of the mission control Center Lyndon Johnson in Houston.
