On December 25 second on territory of Russian Federation object of chemical weapon annihilation comes into operation in Kambark town (regional center of Udmurt republic).
This was informed by deputy chief of administration over chemical weapon conventional problems in ministry of construction, architecture and housing policies Valery Malyshev.
By his words, about 60 constructions of industrial zone will come into operation today. At present moment start-adjusting works are conducted and various revealed defects are eliminated.
6 milliards rubles were invested in construction of the object, which started in 2003. Moreover, Germany provided financial and technical support in amount of 300 millions euros.
12 tons of chemical weapons, reserved in the town, will be destroyed in Kambark by January 20. The process of all chemical weapon annihilation will last for 3-4 years.
Kambark is known as residence of about 90% of All-Russian poisoning lewisite compounds. Plant in Kambark will become the second object of chemical weapon annihilation in Russia. First one - in Gornyy village in Saratovskaya oblast - was put into operation in December of 2002.
Total reserve of chemical weapons (chemical agents) in Russia amounts to 40 thousands tons. They are stored in 7 arsenals: in Kambark - 15.9%, in Gornyy - 2.9%, in Kizner village (Udmurtia) - 14.2%, in Maradykovo - 17.4%, in Pochep town (Bryanskaya oblast) - 18.8%, in Leonidovka village (Penzenskaya oblast) - 17.2%, in Schuchie - 13.6%.
According to international Convention about ban of development, creation, storage, use and spread of chemical weapons, Russia is obliged to destroy 20% of all poisoning chemical reserves by 2007. All chemical weapons must be annihilated by 2012.
