Over a 100 thousand people participated in celebrations on January 1 night, held in Moscow centre.
New Year`s celebrations in the city centre turned out with no serious incidents, reported the representative of Moscow Internal Affairs Administration press-cutting service Eugeny Gildeyev. Militiamen detained 14 people. "The two were detained for hooliganism, the twelve had alcoholic intoxication and couldn?t walk without assistance", reported Moscow Internal Affairs Administration official.
The order during the New Year?s celebrations in Moscow was provided by about 25 thousand militiamen. In the areas of mass merrymakings alcohol drinks and other drinks in glass bottles sale was prohibited.
Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs decided to be more tolerant to driver?s minor violations of the law. However, it didn?t concern drunk drivers. "A drunken driver is a potential criminal ever", said deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Alexander Chekalin. According to Chekalin, militiamen are recommended to be more tolerant to drunken people on holidays. "All militiamen on duty are intent to help drunken people. They will play the role of Father Frost, so to say, taking home people slightly under the weather", said Chikalin.
