Poroshenko made on ratification of the agreement on Ukraine's membership to CERN
The head of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko submitted to the Parliament for ratification the agreement on granting Ukraine the status of an associated member of the European organization for nuclear research (CERN).
The relevant draft law on Tuesday registered on the Internet representation of the Parliament. At the moment the contract text is missing. The instrument of acceptance of Ukraine in the number of associate members of the organization was signed in October 2013.
Ukraine and CERN signed an agreement on cooperation in 1993, but Ukrainian scientists have worked in projects much earlier - in the majority " under roof " of the joint Institute for nuclear research in Dubna near Moscow. Ukrainian scientists are involved in experiments on detectors ALICE, CMS and LHCb the Large hadron Collider. Ukraine is one of the nodes of the computer network CERN.
CERN is the world's leading organization in the field of elementary particle physics, founded in 1953. Members of the organization are 20 European countries, and some countries, e.g. USA, Japan, India and Russia have the status of observers. The CERN Council in 2010 decided to reformat part in the work of the organization. Non-European countries have obtained the right to the status of an associated member, which used to be seen as a transition to the full and was possible only for Europe. At the same time observer status gradually abolished.
