Farmers in the Baltic countries and Finland, who suffer losses due to the response of Russia on the Western punishment, on Wednesday will begin in Brussels two-day protest action demanding to increase support for dairy farmers, said a spokesman for the Association of Latvian agricultural cooperatives Sabine Puke.
" The format of the action involves, as it is not a street protest and demonstration, coordinated dialogues with representatives of the European Commission and the European Parliament. Farmers will also give European politicians bottle of milk with inscriptions about the disastrous state of Affairs in the industry and demand support, " said Puke.
Among the participants will be four messengers of each country.
The European Commission in November highlighted Latvia 7, 7 million euros to support the dairy industry. According to farmers, these tools will be enough only for two months. Harm the dairy industry in Latvia after the response from Russia to punish the West amounted to several tens of million euros.
Relations between Russia and the West deteriorated in connection with the situation in Ukraine. At the end of July, the EU and the US from point penalties against private individuals and organizations turned to measures against entire sectors of the Russian economy. In response, Russia has restricted the import of food items from countries that have introduced in relation to penalties: USA, EU, Canada, Australia and Norway. A ban were beef, pork, poultry, sausages, fish, vegetables, fruits, dairy products and some other products.
