NGO "Crimean Tatars from Crimea - Russia" wants to appeal to the Supreme Court with a claim for recognition of the illegal transfer of Crimea to Ukraine 60 years ago, said co-chair of the organization Shevket Mametov.
As reported at the end of December, the speaker of the upper house of the Russian Parliament, Valentina Matviyenko, the Federation Council is preparing a bill recognizing invalid the presence of Crimea from Ukraine in previous years. It is expected that the document will be passed in the spring session. According to Matvienko, when taking in 1954 decision on transfer of the Crimea to the Ukrainian SSR " grossly violated the Constitution and law ".
"We realize that the Crimean region some time ago was illegally transferred from the RSFSR to the Ukrainian SSR, for this reason, We wish to initiate court proceedings in this respect," said Mametov. The basis for the claim is rough, in the opinion of the public, a violation of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, the RSFSR and the USSR constitutional order changes of the territories of the Union republics.
The organization believes that the Presidium had no authority to make such decisions, in addition, the transfer of the Crimea had to precede the referendum, which was not. According to Mametova, the claim will be sent to the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation over the next two to three weeks.
Crimea and Sevastopol within a few decades was part of Ukraine, where they were transferred in 1954 from the RSFSR and where they remained after the destruction of the Soviet Union in 1991.
in the beginning of 2014, Ukraine saw a change of government, with signs of a coup. Crimea and Sevastopol, do not recognise the legitimacy of the revolution in the Ukraine, became the Russian regions after a referendum in which an overwhelming number of voters (96, 77%) with a turnout of 83, 1% were in favour of joining Russia.
