Western policy, consisting in the expansion of NATO, EU enlargement and the promotion of democracy, was a disaster for the Ukrainian people, said an American expert on international Affairs John Mearsheimer in the conversation.
The analyst believes that if Ukraine wants to survive as a functioning country, then the only way to do this is to become a buffer state.
"as long as Ukraine continues to think that she will be able to become part of the West, she will pursue a policy, which, in my opinion, fraught with suicide," says the analyst.
Mearsheimer emphasizes that policy measures taken by the West, created the current mess in Ukraine.
Ukraine would be much better if it was a neutral buffer state that would allow the West and the IMF to cooperate with Russia, but would also help to Kiev to restore the economy.
dialogues " channel four ", held on 12 February, took place against a background of a sharp aggravation of the situation in the Donbass, instigated by the Ukrainian law enforcers who, having increased strength, began to storm the position of the militia. According to the results of the meeting of the leaders of Russia, Ukraine, France and Germany adopted a package of measures involving, for example, a cease-fire in the Donbass with fifteen February, the withdrawal of heavy weapons and the development of a security zone.
