Norwegian author Per Petterson and his translator Anne Born won the world`s richest literary prize for a single work of fiction in English on Thursday for the novel "Out Stealing Horses."
Petterson and Born collected 100,000 euros ($133,000) along with the annual International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award, fending off competition from seven other writers.
The eight short-listed titles for the prize were selected from 138 novels that were nominated by 169 libraries from 49 countries.
Other contenders had been South African Nobel Laureate J.M. Coetzee for "Slow Man," Britain`s Julian Barnes for "Arthur and George," Ireland`s Sebastian Barry for "A Long Long Way" and Indian-born British writer Salman Rushdie for "Shalimar The Clown."
