Ukraine is not prepared for world energy prices yet, so statements of some politicians about necessity to agree for the European gas price are irresponsible, Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovich announced at a news conference in Poltava yesterday.
As the Ukrainian prime minister noted, the question of price for gas imported in Ukraine rises every year at negotiations. "Every year there is tug-of-war, because each party is securing its interests. I see no threats, if the process is civilized, and we will surely protect our domestic producers," Viktor Yanukovich said. According to the prime minister, in the long run, Ukraine will come to world prices, but now in the relations with the partners it is necessary to find a compromise in pricing for gas supplies.
According to the premier, the government is pursuing a flexible policy in order to decrease energy consumption each year at the account of introducing new technologies. Besides, the prime minister once again denied rumors of possible handing over the Ukrainian gas transporting system to Russia stressing it is still Ukrainian property. "I see no threats; nobody is taking anything from us. So, do not scare us," Viktor Yanukovich said.
