The 2d Russian Far Eastern international economic forum finished its work in Khabarovsk on Wednesday.
"The forum has been a significant event in the country’s economic life. It is considered as a traditional place of meetings of the business community and representatives of all levels of authority for solving the most important problems,’’ State Duma Deputy Speaker Vladimir Katrenko said.
The forum discussed at its plenary sittings the strategic issues of long-term development of the Russian Far east and the Trans-Baikal region, the activation of cooperation of Russia’s eastern regions with Asia Pacific Region countries, and prospects for development of the transport and industrial infrastructure.
"During roundtable meetings, strategic plans of socio-economic development of eastern Russia were laid in the context of forming a new model of the national economy,’’ Katrenko said.
He stressed that Russia had overgrown the role of a raw materials colony and was increasingly confidently reviving its industry and developing nanotechnology.
Curious proposals for innovative development of Russia’s Far Eastern region and the whole country have been voiced at the forum, Katrenko said.
It was stated at the final plenary sitting that much had been done since the latest forum that was held two years ago.
In particular, the funding of the programme Russian Far East - Trans-Baikal region to the years to 2913 has been increased to 566 billion roubles, with 426 billion issued from the federal budget.
About 700 billion roubles will be appropriate for the programme in prospect, Katrenko said.
"The state is ready to invest in this region."
Katrenko said the initiatives that were articulated at the forum would help implementing dozens of major investment projects in strategically important regions and would speed up economic development of the Russian Far East.
The proposals of the forum will be implemented at all levels of authority, the Khabarovsk region’s governor Viktor Ishayev said.
Over 900 people have attended the forum, including Russian and foreign businessmen, officials, members of the Russian Academy of Sciences and delegates of Russia’s 20 regions.
Representatives of China, South Korea, Malaysia, Japan and the US presented reports at the forum.
