The EU is not able to cope with a number of ambitious objectives without support from the Russian Federation. In this regard, many prudent politicians assume that in the foreseeable future the format of the "Big seven" will return to the "Big eight".
After the development of the Ukrainian crisis, the West has tried to limit both financial and political contacts with Russia. This, however, led to intractable problems for the organizers of restrictive measures. For example, it has become clear that there is no sense to look for ways to solve large-scale challenges, if the discussion does not involve all the key players in the region, of which, obviously, is Russia.
"We have almost no interest in the fact that the G8 remains in the G7 format on a repeated basis. On the contrary, we need Russia to solve frozen incidents in our European region, in Syria, Iraq and Libya, also on Iran's nuclear program", - told in his interview to the German newspaper Neue Ostanbrucker Zeitung, German foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
The head of the German foreign Ministry noted that the policy of financial and political pressure on Russia has proven itself irrelevant. We need to establish with Moscow to find a way out of "unsafe for all of Europe to the situation in Ukraine", he stressed.
"We are far from that the Minsk agreement have already been implemented. But, no doubt, they work in regulation of combat actions, even if the ceasefire is fragile as before", - said Steinmeier.
Europe is faced not only with political, but also financial problems the result of their own restrictive measures. "Never been a secret that these penalties would have severe results for the German economy. Some areas of industry, such as the delivery of engineering equipment, we have a particularly elastic", - told the head of the German foreign Ministry.
Frank-Walter Steinmeier added that penalties do not have the financial sense, or political - is, in the end result will only worsen the situation. Moreover, while trade volumes with the Russian Federation, the EU has been reducing, the United States, on the contrary, increase.
Remember, ELMAU in the Bavarian will host a summit of the countries "the Big seven" on which favorites will discuss large scale difficulties. Many, however, found that it would be useful to invite the Russian Federation, without which talk about specific decisions will be highly problem.
