Russian hockey team start the Karjala Cup with a win over Sweden. The opening minutes of the clash were very tight as the teams exchanged the goals after Zynovyev found the target on power play and Sweden leveled five minutes later. The difference between two sides appeared in the first period already when Tereschenko put Russia 2-1 ahead. Russian side put the final stop to the match in the third period as Medvedev fired in the third goal. In the second game of the day Finland suffered 2-3 defeat from the Czechs.
