The head of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko believes that Ukraine, as in most of other Orthodox Christian countries, must be created on its own Autocephalous Orthodox Church ", and hopes for the support of the Ecumenical Patriarch in this matter.
Today in Ukraine there are 3 Orthodox patterns, only one of which - the UOC-MP is recognized by all the local Orthodox churches of the world. The other two - the UOC-KP and the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church (UAOC) - with the support of the political authorities in more than 2 decades, demand the recognition of their legitimacy.
"Today we Express our gratitude to the spiritual leadership of the mother Church of Constantinople for her all possible assistance in the establishment in our country of the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church, I trust in prayer and hope for the support of the Ecumenical Patriarch," said Poroshenko on Tuesday at the enlarged meeting of the country's leadership with members of the Ukrainian Council of churches.
