Authorized USA and Italy (both are part of NATO) in the framework of the international Treaty on open skies From 17 to 22 August will perform an observation flight over Russia.
"From 17 to 22 August in the framework of implementation of the international Treaty on open skies joint mission of the United States and Italy will carry out observation flight over the territory of the Russian Federation on American aircraft observations OS-B FROM the airport Novosibirsk (Tolmachevo)," - said the head of the Russian Center for reducing nuclear threat Sergei Ryzhkov.
OS-B belongs to the class of aircraft that are not designed for the use of weapons. The plane and installed the surveillance equipment (cameras) have passed an international examination, which was attended by Russian Experts, which eliminates the use of technical facilities not covered by the Agreement.
The Treaty on open skies was signed in 1992 and became one of the measures to strengthen confidence in the European Union after the Cold war. It's been around Since 2002 and allows the participating countries to openly collect information about military forces and activities of one another. The Contract includes the vast number of NATO countries, Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Georgia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and neutral Sweden and Finland. Usually the flights Russia and NATO countries are conducted on a reciprocal basis.
