The plane with seven passengers and a pilot onboard was on a scheduled flight from Mayne Island to Vancouver, via Pender Island and Saturna Island. It sank in water about 14 meters (46 feet) deep some 800 meters off Saturna Island. "I caught a flash of light through the window which made me look up, and as I looked up the nose of the plane was entering the water," the newspaper quoted an eyewitness as saying. "I saw it splash in." A female passenger and the male pilot were rescued immediately after the crash. They were taken to a hospital in stable condition. The pilot suffered multiple scratches to the face, while the woman was diagnosed with hypothermia. The cause of the accident is being established. Coast guard vessels, helicopters and divers are still searching for the missing passengers.
