In Turkey there was a coup attempt. Chaos erupted on Friday evening when the military tanks went into the streets of Ankara and Istanbul and soldiers blocked the famous Bosphorus bridge.
The Turkish government said Saturday that it is firmly in control of the attempted coup in the night from Friday to Saturday, when the country was hit by violence and chaos, resulting in 161 deaths.
Turmoil exposes the deep resentment in the military ranks and Erdogan has promised to clean up the "treacherous elements." But less than 24 hours after the attempted coup, questions remain about who planned it and why they decided to act now.
