Commander Eric Rasch was dismissed from his post of commandant of the 3rd coastal squadron. Rush recently took over command and was in trouble with the seizure of the vessel.
Captain Gary Lee, commander General of the group, made the findings after preliminary investigation of the incident the Navy near the island of Farsi of Iran in the Persian Gulf.
The results of extensive investigation of the incident has not been disclosed, but CNN has previously reported that the crew of 10 sailors in the two boats repeatedly made mistakes that led them into Iranian territorial waters and, in the end was captured. Some other members of the naval forces have already received administrative punishment, reprimands, but these types of actions are not made public. A full investigation is expected to be completed in late may.
Rush has served as commander since April 4, and the second commander in command from 1 August 2014 to 3 April. In the latter capacity he was responsible for the training and readiness of over 400 sailors. He was recently appointed to a higher position before the results of the preliminary investigation were available.
Members of the Maritime unit of the Corps of Iran's revolutionary guards seized the sailors on 12 January, when the six armed vessels surrounded the 2 river ship of the U.S. Navy. The sailors blindfolded and repeatedly interrogated, according to Navy officials told CNN.
The report said that the sailors sailed into the territorial waters of Iran out of ignorance. They were not a valid route. In addition, they did not carry out standard operational briefing for himself before the campaign, during which they could reconsider their ways and navigation plan.
