The ceremony of the Holocaust memorial in Jerusalem memorial centre "Yad Vashem" begins with the ignition of the fire in memory of the 6 million men, women, children from Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Germany, France, the Soviet Union, killed in the gas chambers of the Nazi death camps, shot in ditches, tortured in ghettos just because they were Jews.
The fire ignites Rav Meir Lau, who was once the youngest prisoner in the Auschwitz, rescued from death a Russian prisoner Feodor Mikhailichenko. In Israel, the survivors of the Nazi concentration camps, perhaps more than anywhere else - 194 thousand. Those who come today, "Your Poison" in order to honor the memory of loved ones, burnt in the ovens of Auschwitz, "Sobibor", "Midanik", "Ravensbruck". For these people, who arrived in what was then mandatory Palestine immediately after the Second world war. Israel is not just a historical biblical homeland, is a guarantee of security, confidence that disaster will not happen again.
In the artistic circle nursing home a few kilometers from tel Aviv, the old people enthusiastically working with a chisel on wood, reproducing scenes from the life of pre-war towns of Western Belarus, Ukraine or Poland. Sasha Galitsky, the artist who once lived in Moscow, now gives all his time and strength to work with former prisoners of the death factories, people on the left hand which is already dim, but does not erase years of camp number.
In this Day of remembrance, "Yad Vashem" going all political, religious leaders, the President, Prime Minister, speaker of Knesset, chief rabbis. This evening traditionally 6 survivors and surviving to the present day prisoners of Nazi camps and ghettos lit torches. 6 people, 6 torches in memory of the 6 million killed people.
