Taiwan event organizer was sentenced to 4 years and 10 months in prison for his role in the party at the Park that fireball killed 15 people last year, told the court on Tuesday.
The party, organized by Lu Zhong-Chi in the Park on 27 June last year ended in tragedy. The colored powder that is sprayed on visitors to the Park ignited. The result was an explosion that resulted in numerous victims.
15 people were killed and 331 were injured and 135 received less serious injuries, said in a statement from the district court. Most of the victims were in their Teens. The court said that Lu had failed to prevent the bombings, stating that as an event organizer, he "knew that there are potential risks of explosion of colored powder and that it may cause harm to the participants at the party."
"In accordance with the law, he was responsible for the visitors and was responsible for the security when providing their services. he could not cope with this task", the statement said court.
The court said that Lou left the stage at 7 p.m. before the explosions, but did not say to a friend that he stop spraying colored powder into the crowd. Powder packets were also distributed to patrons. In the aftermath of the disaster, Lou apologized publicly, kneeling in front of reporters.
Plastic surgeons worked around the clock to help the victims, who received severe injuries. Many of the doctors breathed a flammable powder, which led to damage to internal organs.
