Senior aides close to then-presidential candidate Donald Trump were in constant communication with the Russian intelligence services, according to law enforcement officers and administration officials say.
The President-elect trump and former US President Barack Obama was briefed on the details of the extensive ties between the suspects Russian operatives and people associated with the campaign of trump, according to American officials familiar with the matter. The message was intercepted during a routine intelligence gathering in the orientation of Russian officials and other Russian citizens, known to us intelligence.
Among several senior advisers to trump regularly communicate with citizens of the Russian Federation, was Chairman of the campaign by Paul Manafort and consultant Michael Flynn. Officials stressed that the communication between the campaign staff, and representatives of foreign States are not unusual. However, these posts were allocated in respect of the frequency and level of trump's advisers involved in the negotiations.
In an interview, Manafort strongly denied that he was in contact with Russian known to us intelligence agencies. "The information is 100% untrue, at least as far as I know," he said. "I did not participate in any of these activities."
Manafort said he didn't know where American officials found out that he was in contact with suspected Russian operatives during the campaign, but said he never spoke to any Russian officials during this time.
Manafort said the FBI has not contacted him about the allegations and said he was not aware of any other officials of the campaign trump or people close to Trump that have been in contact with Russian intelligence.
