The US President Donald trump said that he would like to consult with Chinese President XI Jinping before speaking with the leader of Taiwan. In an interview with Reuters trump said that would again violate the policy of "one China."

"I had a very good personal relationship with President XI. And I really feel that he does everything in his power to help us in a big situation, so I would not want to create difficulties for him, " he said, referring to the increasingly tense standoff with Pyongyang.

To call neither the US President or the President-elect has not talked directly with the Taiwan leader since the 1970-ies, and then Secretary of state said that the group's transition trump has not contacted the Department of state before the call. Despite the fact that trump was optimistic about the future of the official US position in this matter, he eventually abandoned his commitments and decided to follow the policy established for decades.
