The actress has played Princess Fiona in all the movies, including the upcoming Shrek Forever After which is the fourth in the series. She loves the part and would play it for the rest of her life if given the chance, so was devastated to hear there may not be any more films featuring the loveable green ogre.
"It does look like this will be the last Shrek," Cameron is quoted as saying. "I am actually sad about that because I love it so much. I love that I have been able to play Fiona for all four movies and I`ll be sad to say goodbye to her.
"I want to start up a campaign to bring it back. I always look forward to being a part of it and get so excited about it I don`t know what I am going to do with myself now."
Shrek Forever After will open New York`s Tribeca Film Festival next month, and is slated for release later this year.
Alongside Cameron as Shrek`s ogress wife Fiona, Mike Myers will once more star as Shrek, Eddie Murphy as Donkey, Antonio Banderas as Puss In Boots and Justin Timberlake as King Artie.
New additions to the cast include Walt Dohrn as Rumplestiltskin and Mad Men`s John Hamm as a good looking ogre.
