Kiefer Sutherland will no longer star in movies

The 43-year-old recently announced the current eighth season of his show 24, in which he portrays tough anti-terror agent Jack Bauer, will be the last. He has now revealed he has no interest in pursuing film roles in the future, explaining he finds working on the small screen far more rewarding.

"I grew up on films such as One Flew Over The Cuckoo?s Nest, Urban Cowboy, Terms Of Endearment and Ordinary People but they don?t make those movies anymore. Drama got picked up by television," he explained to Variety.com. "TV is really the home of the drama. When you look at everything from The West Wing to The Wire, ER to The Sopranos, there`s amazing television out there."

Kiefer began working as an actor 27 years ago. He insists he isn`t the only star to notice the way television has changed, and predicts more big names will start appearing in series soon.

Although he has sworn off the big screen, Kiefer will make one exception. A 24 feature film is currently in the pipeline, and the star has already confirmed he will be reprising his role for it. The TV series is shown in real time, with 24 episodes each depicting one hour of a day, but the film will be condensed into two hours.

"In a two-hour (movie) representation of the 24 world, planes, trains, and automobiles all of a sudden become a factor because you are not required to go scene by scene in real time. That?s something I can say I am very excited about," he explained.
