The flamboyant singer is famed for her outrageous outfits, and is regularly spotted dining out in just her underwear. She insists her look is all about confidence, and has encouraged her fans to wear whatever makes them happy even if it is unusual.
However, Gaga hasn`t always been proud of her svelte figure. As a child she was unhappy with her appearance, and her self-consciousness was made worse by some of the girls she went to school with. "I had a very big nose, very curly, brown hair and I was overweight. I got made fun of," she explained.
The star now hopes to help other young people in the same situation. She wants her fans to understand it doesn`t matter if they are different to other people, they should celebrate being unique.
She explained music helped her through the hard times in her life, and those close to her continue to be amazed by how different she is when she is performing. "My friends joke that I`m dead until I get on stage," she told the British edition of Cosmopolitan magazine. "In 20 years, I hope people will say, Lady Gaga changed my life, and her music gave me an identity when I didn`t belong."
