Lily Allen insists she isn`t too young to have a baby.
The 25-year-old singer has repeatedly said she is keen to become a mother, and was left devastated when she suffered a miscarriage in 2008. The star recently announced she was taking a break from her career to focus on her relationship with builder Sam Cooper, leading to rumours she is planning to start a family. Lily sparked further speculation she may be pregnant at the Glastonbury music festival last weekend, when she refused to drink alcohol or stay out late.
She has now admitted she is broody, and says she is unsure why people criticise her for wanting a child at her age. "When I`m buying expensive things I tend to think, `Yep, that`s something timeless that I can give to my daughter.` I don`t think I`m that young to have a baby. My mother had me when she was 23," Lily told the August issue of British magazine Elle. "It`s difficult as a woman who wants a family. Kids take up your whole life, particularly in the first two or three years. So it wouldn`t be very responsible of me to commit to doing a world tour if I had a baby."
Lily finds the constant intrusion into her personal life hard to deal with. She is particularly affected by comments about her weight, which she admits fluctuates.
The star thinks it sends out a bad message when she is criticised for putting on a few pounds, and she has learnt not to listen to the nasty comments. "When I was on tour earlier in the year, I`d be on stage for four-and-a-half hours a night, so since the tour finished in March I`ve put on about 7lbs. But I do Pilates three times a week. I am still body conscious, but I`m not so concerned with it - I don`t care as much."
