Russia Pays High Price For Winter Olympics
The 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi could become the most expensive Games ever, with estimates coming in at a staggering £20bn.

The 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi could become the most expensive Games ever, with estimates coming in at a staggering £20bn.
With four years still to go, that figure will dwarf Vancouver`s overall spend of around £3.5bn. The Sochi games are already dogged by massive controversy and allegations of corruption. Many homes are in the process of being demolished to make way for the six-stadia Olympic Park.
Bulldozers crash through the remnants of once beloved buildings whose owners argue the destruction of their homes is unnecessary.
Natalia Prudnikova`s house will be the next to meet such a fate. She has lived in what she says was once her "beautiful place" for over a decade. She was given three days to get out. She`s heartbroken. "My life - the lives of my children have been completely destroyed - like this house. Pain - that`s all I feel. "We`re so angry - they could have easily amended their draft plans and redesigned the project to avoid homes."
Natalia and her neighbours were offered compensation which, they say, does not match the true value of their homes.
They were also offered new homes but they say these are cramped and poorly built.
The authorities insist the result will be worth it. Their shiny promotional video shows the ambition of the project which is being billed as the most expensive Olympics ever.
Perhaps surprisingly - the most expensive aspect is a road which will connect the coastal area with the mountains. It will cost a staggering £5bn because they have to drill through 17 miles of mountain.
But many say what`s really making these games so pricy is corruption.
