Vladimir Putin held a meeting devoted to security issues of Russia's eastern borders.
In his opening remarks, the head of state noted that the day before, during preparations for exercises, he discussed with the commander of the Pacific Fleet and his subordinates not only the tasks of the upcoming maneuvers, but also the current situation in their area of responsibility.
The President emphasized that the main task is to protect all frontiers of the country.
He said that on Wednesday before the Pacific Fleet exercises, he spoke with Admiral Viktor Liina and his team, discussing both exercise plans and the situation in the region.
"The territory is not simple. Yesterday the commander gave an assessment of the situation in the region, and I fully agree with it. I would like to hear you today and hear your proposals on what needs to be done additionally to create conditions for you and your subordinates to most effectively solve the common tasks facing us," Putin addressed the meeting participants.
The meeting was attended by the head of the FSB border department for the Sakhalin region, Sergei Makhorin, and the acting commander of the 68th Guards Army Corps, Alexei Shvedov.
