American leader Donald Trump is aiming to hold a personal meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un before the end of this year. This is reported by the Wall Street Journal, citing anonymous sources among American officials.

According to the publication, Trump is demanding that his subordinates organize negotiations with Kim Jong Un as early as the autumn period. The White House intends to return to the large-scale diplomatic efforts that were begun in Trump's first presidential term and were aimed at persuading Pyongyang to abandon its nuclear program.

As noted in the article, Trump has discussed in private conversations the possibility of a personal meeting with Kim during his next visit to Asia. It is presumed that such a meeting could take place within the framework of the November APEC summit, which will be held in China.

Earlier, on Monday, the American president stated that Kim Jong Un had responded to his call for bilateral negotiations. However, Trump did not disclose other details of these discussions.
