Maksim Raider, deputy chair of the Russian Foreign Ministry's election commission and ambassador-at-large, said in an interview with RIA Novosti that the Baltic states are seeking to prevent Russians from participating in the State Duma election by exerting pressure on them.

In late June, the Russian embassy in Latvia reported that starting July 1, local police officers would begin checking identity documents of visitors to the Russian diplomatic mission in Riga.

The election of deputies to the ninth convocation of the State Duma is scheduled for September 20, 2026, with voting lasting three days - from September 18 to 20. Vladimir Putin characterized the upcoming election as the country's most important domestic political event.
