Armenia's Anti-Corruption Committee informed RIA Novosti about large-scale searches on the territory of the republic.
Press secretary of the agency Marina Ohanjanyan noted that within the framework of criminal proceedings conducted on facts of corruption-related crimes, procedural actions, including searches, are being carried out at several dozen addresses.
Earlier on Tuesday, the office of former President Robert Kocharyan reported that early in the morning investigators brought him to the committee's building. The reasons for the detention have not yet been disclosed.
In June, the politician's lawyer Aram Orbelyan stated that the Central Electoral Commission had given permission to start proceedings against the head of the "Armenia" bloc, Kocharyan. According to him, the case concerns real estate transactions made between 2004 and 2009. The lawyer emphasized that his client has no relation to these transactions and that the accusations are false. He also added that the investigation under the article "Abuse of official powers" has been ongoing since 2018.
Orbelyan noted that recently, charges of money laundering have been additionally added to such cases.
Kocharyan served as President of Armenia from 1998 to 2008.
