U.S. President Donald Trump announced an oil deal with Venezuela, calling it the largest in history. According to him, Washington gained control over more than 65 billion barrels of proven oil reserves, with U.S. taxpayers incurring no costs.
Trump stressed that this deal more than doubles America's oil reserves, expands access to oil, and will lead to a significant reduction in gasoline prices for Americans for years to come.
The agreement was worked on by Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, as well as Venezuelan President's envoy Delcy Rodriguez and representatives of private business.
In January, after the change of power in Caracas, the parties signed agreements under which revenues from oil sales will go to accounts controlled by Washington.
Last week, U.S. Deputy Energy Secretary Kyle Housetway said that in recent months Venezuela's oil exports exceed 500 thousand barrels per day, which is about half of the country's total production.
