According to information received by RIA Novosti from representatives of Russian security forces, an operation has begun to destroy the remaining forces of the Ukrainian army, which have been surrounded in the area of Volchansk, located in the Kharkiv region.

The source reported that the liquidation of the remnants of the Ukrainian Armed Forces group in the northeast of the Kharkiv region has already begun, and many Ukrainian soldiers have started to surrender.

The agency's interlocutor also noted that the encirclement ring in the Volchansk pocket is gradually tightening, and the intensity of hostilities is increasing.

According to him, some surrounded Ukrainian fighters are attempting to leave the pocket by moving through forest belts, while abandoning military equipment and weapons. Those who refuse to surrender are destroyed on the spot.

Earlier, on Tuesday, President Vladimir Putin announced the completion of the encirclement of an enemy group of up to two thousand people. The head of state emphasized that the liquidation of the pocket would allow the line of combat contact to be moved away from the border areas of the Belgorod region by at least 20 kilometers.

In the Kharkiv region, the "North" group is operating. During the day, fighters took control of the settlements of Vasilevka, Blagodatnoye, and Dolzhanka.
