US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that during contacts held over the past weekend in the Russian and Ukrainian capitals, where American emissaries Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner were present, new approaches to resolving the Ukrainian crisis were brought up for discussion.
According to Rubio, the results of these meetings give reason to hope that in the foreseeable future, within the coming weeks, it will be possible to form an action plan for resuming negotiations in a trilateral format on Ukraine.
On Saturday, Vladimir Putin received Witkoff and Kushner in the Kremlin. The conversation lasted three hours and ten minutes. This was already the eighth visit of Washington representatives to Russia. As Ushakov said, the head of state gave them clear and comprehensive assessments of the situation on the ground, and they promised to be guided by them in dialogue with Kiev.
The next day they arrived in the Ukrainian capital. As reported in the Kremlin, Putin ordered to stop strikes on Kiev for three days to prepare and conduct these contacts. The negotiations took place in two rounds; at the second, national security advisers of Great Britain, Germany and France joined them.
The day before, Vladimir Putin discussed the results of the American delegation's visit with US leader Donald Trump. As presidential aide Yuri Ushakov said, the sides positively assessed the past meetings. Putin gave an objective and detailed analysis of what is happening in the special operation zone. He supported Trump's attitude toward constructive partnership between Moscow and Washington and outlined steps that Washington could take to end the conflict in Ukraine.
